Below:  'Betsy' - before the transformation.  This vehicle was first purchased in 2001 and completed over 300,000 kilometres on a power station site. All panels were damaged and the engine and vehicle was a 'throw away job'.  Along came the Kidney Kar Rally and Betsy commenced the transformation.

In 2009 the Kidney Kar Rally will be celebrating its 21st birthday and will continue the tradition of yet another great adventure into the far flung reaches of this magnificent country, Australia.  We're making a NOISE about the Silent Killer - Chronic Kidney Disease.

Three states covered - Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales ... with the biggest field in its history featuring some seventy cars.

Sir Jack and Lady Margaret Brabham, Patrons of Kidney Health Australia said the Kidney Kar Rally event is one of the major activities of the Kidney Health Australia Calendar and plays a vital role in not only raising funds but also in creating awareness about Chronic Kidney Disease which affects one in three Australians.

Sir Jack who has suffered kidney failure and is on dialysis praised the commitment and efforts of the Kidney Kar Rally teams in developming their teams to participate.

Anne Wilson CEO of Kidney Health Australia said Chronic Kidney Disease is known as the Silent Killer as people can lose up to 90% of their kidney function without even knowing it which makes alerting people to the issue extremely difficult.  The annual Kidney Kar Rally provides a unique opportunity to
'Make A Noise About The Silent Killer'.

Starting at Launceston (Tasmania), the Diamond Protection team (co-founders Julian Smith and Arie Kliger) will compete against 70+ rally cars from around Australia.  The Diamond Team—vehicle name ‘Betsy’ - Kar No. 1995 will traverse the exciting Island of Tasmania, from the rugged west, the central plateau broken by steep mountains and narrow river valleys, to the eastern coastal region.  Using little travelled tracks and private property roads, the Diamond team will race through Port Arthur, the old   mining area around Queenstown, Strahan, the Lakes District and many tiny communities.

Crossing the Tasman from Devonport to Melbourne via the Spirit of Tasmania and then continue through Victoria (Ballarat), then into Southern New South Wales, working its way north and east to arrive for the finish of the event in the world famous wine region of the Hunter Valley.
