PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is special safety equipment that you may be advised to wear in relation to specific hazards within your work site.

When potential workplace hazards are identified, PPE regulations are put in place specifically to address that hazard. The PPE required for your workplace is decided upon by regulatory bodies and by your employer to ensure your safety and the safety of others working with you.

An individual failing to abide by the PPE requirements may be in breach of workplace agreements and standard workplace safety regulations. This action could lead to disciplinary action in a best case scenario, or accident or injury in a worst case scenario.

Depending on where your patrol route, assignment or site resides, you may need to wear any combination of the following protective equipment:

  • Protective eye-wear – glasses or goggles
  • Safety hard hats
  • Safety boots
  • Protective hearing equipment – ear plugs or muffs
  • Reflective/High Visibility vests
  • Protective gloves or rubber/latex gloves
  • Face shield

Wearing the proper PPE is a legal requirement. Stay aware of the requirements of your workplace and advise others to do so also.
